Not so long ago, when every peasant family have raised farm animals, according to tradition, before Christmas pigs have always been slaughtered. Berek, for recovering strength and rakia for purifying spirit is the feast bought by slaughterhouse workers after well done job.

- 350 gr. rice
- 200 gr. pig liver
- 2-3 heads of leek
- Black pepper
Meat and liver are cut into small pieces. In a pan with heated oil meat is put to fry firstly, and after a while liver is added, salt and black pepper are added and all the meat is finely fried. Leek is minced and fried separately in a pan with oil. Over the fried leek is added the washed rice, salt is added and this is fried a few more minutes. Meat and rice are mixed and placed in a pan on fire. The rice in the pan is sealed with hot water and it is let to simmer on moderate heat for about ten minutes. Berek is baked in preheated oven at 200 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
